October 2016: I opened my email and was shocked to see an invitation from the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs. I had received an invitation to the Filipino American History Month Celebration at THE WHITE HOUSE. The program featured discussions with Administration officials on key issues of interest to the Filipin@ American community such as education, Veterans Recognition, immigration, and health. I don’t even have the words to describe what it was like to be in one room with some of the biggest names and contributors to our Filipin@ American community across all fields. But I’ll never forget the energy of us being super serious in one moment and then all turning up to a live performance from apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas.
